January 2009 Album Update: Earth Noise

I'm experimenting with brainwave entrainment and producing altered states through theta wave binaural beats and shamanistic trance-inducing drum beats (4.5 beats per second) for the final song of the new album.

Theta waves are electrical vibrations in the brain which resonate between 4-8hz. These frequencies are prominent in states of drowsiness, the first stage of sleep, and altered trance states. During a theta-induced trance, shamans are able to inflict serious injury to themselves without pain. It has been shown scientifically that the body's electromagnetic field itself is changed or disrupted during this kind of trance, specifically in the area where the self-mutilation is being done.

Those moments where you zone out, or realize you don't remember the last forty miles of your drives, are instances of theta states.

Theta waves improve learning and creativity, hence the term "sleep on it." I attribute this to the reason why I write most of my music during long periods of sleep deprivation. Much of the new album has been written from extensive recordings of late-night theta jam sessions. It wasn't until I began further research into theta waves that this began to make sense to me.

It's interesting to note that the Earth Frequency, or the Schumann resonance, is a theta wave of 7.83hz. This is the most commonly found global electromagnetic resonance, excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth surface and the ionosphere.

Brainwave entrainment is the process of using external stimulation (auditory or visual) to alter brainwave vibrations for meditation, healing, sleep, dreaming, attention, alterness, or general relaxation and well-being.

Certain binaural beats can create disequilibrium and other uncomfortable effects. It is rumored that a binaural beat of 20.215hz can mimic the effects of LSD.

Consider yourself warned.

Apophenia: the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data.

I want to find meaning in this, I'm searching for purpose. But I'm becoming convinced there's no code in the dissonance.

Bio 2009

Fall Out Fracture is an intricate and constantly evolving organism, striving for fascinating new ways to seamlessly weave the world's most ancient rhythms and sounds into the fabric of modern and electronic textures.

Often described with an eclectic jumble of words like visceral, sensual, and a very natural sense of insanity, Fall Out Fracture has risen from the grime of the bland musical landscape with an unmistakably new and distinctive sonic dissonance.

The debut release, the highly experimental Anxiety EP, features tabla, theremin, and thick over-driven guitars all at the same time in the six-minute doomsday epic "Surviving The End." Within the other six songs is an array of abstract layers, including a dual between tabla and drum machine, down-tempo acoustic with a hint of harmonica over tribal drum rolls, and a hypnotic urban beat, subsonic jungle rhythms, and subtle electronics pulsing beneath gritty, ethereal guitars dripping with reverb.

While the vocals are methodically restrained and passive like the neurotic calm at the center of the chaos, the lyrical themes are taboo, unnerving, sometimes even maddening. Wether delving deep into raw and bitter introspection or chanting weighty warnings about humanity's parasitic tendencies toward metaphorical cannibalism, it feels more like a conversation with a serial killer than most are comfortable with. The constant sense of instability, vulnerability, the feeling of slowly slipping off the edge, slowly burrows in and takes hold.

The main focus is the art, and art is meant to push the boundaries, stir up suppressed thoughts and feelings, bring about revolution in the self. Fall Out Fracture blurs the lines between beautiful and ugly, sacred and profane, esoteric and modern, primal and metaphysical, to discover a new truth hidden within. To let it bloom, see what it becomes. Metamorphosis or decay, each is a natural and intimate process with beauty shimmering in the macroscopic.

Fall Out Fracture is currently working on an upcoming full-length album with an unclear date of release.

Hindsight

For the first time since the 2005 Anxiety EP a new, complete song has been posted from the upcoming full-length release.

Listen to "Hindsight" here: myspace.com/fracture

Hindsight lyrics:

it's the fear that's keeping me here
i can smell when you're near
i can feel when you're here
and I need you
closer
and even as I swell I swear I'll wash my hands of you

now that I've got it I don't want it, don't want it
gotta kill it, kill it, kill it, kill

it it all fades so fast just try to hold on

everything dear grows so cold and so empty
colors fade, memories stray
feelings so fleeting
screaming, surrendering, consuming
this obsession drags me down
until there's nothing left of me below

hold on to me
it will all be over soon

If you do so solemly swear to spread the word, hold your friends (and/or strangers) hostage and make them listen to the song, you can download Hindsight here: purevolume.com/falloutfracture

November 2007 Album Update

It's been a year since I put up the "firefly" clip from the new album.

The album is nowhere near done yet. It is very personal to me, and I need to get it right. In the process I've written and recorded at least one more complete album. Still trying to decide if I should just finish that up first for the sake of getting something new out there.

What do you think - are you ready for some new Fall Out Fracture, already?

Thank you all for your undying support! Keep it evil.
